Finding a good natural toothpaste that is both effective and that you like is more of a challenge than it might sound. There is a wide range of natural toothpaste when it comes to flavor, texture, ingredients, pastes or powders, taste, and suds factor.
Today, we are going to take an in-depth look at a clay and mineral toothpaste by Zion Health called ClayBrite Mineral Toothpaste. This is their original flavor and the type of clay they use, montmorillonite, is believed to help with keeping your mouth, teeth, and gums healthy in a safe and natural way.
We really like the fact that the ingredients you find in this toothpaste are super-pure, healthy, natural, and non toxic. It is also fluoride-free and gluten-free. You will also never find any sugars or saccharine.
When you take a read through their ingredient label you will find things like clay, stevia extract, purified water, grapefruit seed extract, aloe, peppermint oil, spearmint oil, baking soda, calcium, zinc, and more.
However, there are some ingredients you should be aware of that you may wish to avoid and they are as follows:
- SODIUM LAUROYL SARCOSINATE: this ingredient is suspected to be an environmental toxin and may become an issue when inhaled and lead to respiratory issues.
Since this ingredient is in toothpaste, the concern is a bit lower of a risk to your health. The biggest concern is when this ingredient is used and sprays and powders that are more easily inhaled. However, it is important to be aware this ingredient does pose some level of risk.
Besides this one ingredient, all of the other ingredients are clean and pose no risk to your health. We like the fact this toothpaste contains 57 trace minerals that are known to purify.
The biggest benefit of this toothpaste despite the fact it has clean and healthy ingredients overall is the fact it contains the very unique and special ingredient, montmorillonite clay. This is a special type of natural clay that can help with whitening teeth, supporting gum health, controlling cavities, and freshening breath.
The clay contains over 57 trace minerals that are known for their purifying properties. Having these added minerals to your toothpaste can really help support overall mouth health and ensure your gums and teeth are staying as healthy as possible for a long time to come.
How to Use
You will use this toothpaste just as you would any other toothpaste. Apply the desired amount to your toothbrush, brush at least two minutes, and brush in the morning and the evening. You can even brush your teeth after each meal if you choose. As always, rinse thoroughly after use.
In general, we are impressed by the quality of this toothpaste and love the addition of montmorillonite purifying clay. We would like to note that this natural toothpaste does have quite a strong baking soda taste when brushing your teeth. If you are not a fan of that baking soda flavor and texture in a natural toothpaste, this is not going to be the best option for you.
Some can also find the small granules of baking soda in toothpaste are irritating to the gums, so this is also something to keep in mind before purchasing ClayBrite.
